Hazard Warning LabelsIn addition to HazCom labels the DuraLabel printer can make many other types of labels and signs, including hazard warning labels. Making Hazard Warning Labels
Use Standards: It is important that hazard labels and signs be made in accordance with standards. This allows their message to be immediately understand, with just a glance. For example, CAUTION labels and signs always have a yellow background while WARNING labels and signs always have an orange background. Just by noticing the color you can immediately understand the severity of the danger.
DANGER - the word "danger" is used on labels and signs that identify an immediate hazard. The word "danger" is printed on a red background. WARNING - warning labels and signs identify a potentially hazardous situation. It does not pose an immediate hazard, but it it is not avoided it could cause serious injury or death. The word "warning" is printed on an orange background. CAUTION - a caution label or sign indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. Caution labels and signs have a yellow background. The large caution sign shown above was made using the DuraLabel.
Biohazard labels are typically orange. However, the codes only require it to be of a color so there is sufficient contrast between the printing and the label color. Biohazard labels must always include the biohazard symbol (see label to the right) as well as the word "BioHazard" or "Biological Hazard" printed on the label. No printing should be superimposed on the biohazard symbol. Signal Words: A signal word should be printed in bold type at the top of each label or sign. The following words are used:
BIOHAZARD - these signs are used to identify the actual or potential presense of a biohazard. They identify equipment, containers, rooms, materials that contain or may be contaminated with viable biologically hazardous materials.
